Car Crash of 1999

We had a angel with us on Feb 19, 1999

Many of you might already know that I believe in Angels for many reasons but the story below only gives me even more reasons to believe. This accident isn't as bad as many others I have heard about but well those didn't happen to me! I feel lucky that we are alive and so should anyone who is EVER in an a car accident, no matter how large or small it was.

IT'S SAD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WRITE THIS BUT: I HAVE GOTTEN A FEW RUDE E-MAILS ABOUT ME WRITING ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT. IF YOU READ THIS AND DON'T AGREE WITH MY THOUGHTS THAT'S FINE. STOP READING AND LEAVE. DON'T E-MAIL ME TELLING ME, YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT MUCH WORSE. I HAVE TOO! I KNOW OF MANY WHO HAVE DIED OR ARE VERY HURT IN OTHER ACCIDENTS, I DON'T LIVE UNDER A ROCK. BUT THIS ACCIDENT WAS THE WORSE TO ME (ONLY) B/C I WAS ALONE WITH MY SON. ALL RUDE E- MAIL WILL NOT BE READ OR ANSWERED!!!

After I saw these pictures, I truly believe we had a angel that day watching over us. How could we not?
It's been a year now and each time I look at these I remember the day as if it were yesterday. I can finally write about it. Yes, this was VERY mild for an accident, but it was the worst one for me and my son.

Andrew (my son was 3 yrs old)  and I were driving to the cape to see my parents .  I got on the ramp of ext 18 when I hit a patch of black ice and my car went into a side skid. I did all I could to keep control of the car but I hit a sign head on in the middle ramp with cars driving 65+. A part of the sign came crashing through the front window of the passenger side. I thank God that no one was sitting in the front passenger seat, or they would have been killed. The other part of the sign went flying from the force of the hit, and straight into the traffic. My car stalled out and I was left sitting in the middle of an island and not even ONE car stopped to help (well it was a high way, but someone could have called for help) I could not move the car b/c I blow out 2 tires I guess from the force  of hitting the cement guard . I am so glad I had my cell phone, I called 911 first b/c I needed a tow truck and Andrew was scared and crying (yeah me too) and my lights went out and the car wouldn't start up and I was scared I would be hit by a large truck either getting on the high way or one driving to close to the island. Second, I called my mother telling her we would not make it to her house that night, but didn't tell her I had an accident until I got home that night. Third, I called my husband, Patrick to come help me. I didn't tell him to much either, other then to hurry! I was to worry about Andrew, even though he was in a car seat.  I still worried that with him having Spina Bifida that he could have been hurt and not really know it until much later. I had hit my head on the side on the drivers window, and had a headache for a few hrs. But have suffered with them ever since this accident.

The cop on the scene was so rude and mean I wanted to punch "her" in the face. She asked me about 10 times about the accident and kept asking me if I was speeding. Why would I have been speeding while getting on to the high way? She said she would look and see if there was black ice and took off, leaving me there with Andrew. What a witch she could have stayed until the tow truck came so that I didn't get hit by an on coming car or truck, then look for the ice patch. But I guess she thought it was important to have it checked out and to have a sand truck called out to fix it.

A few minutes later my husband came. My husband told me not to rub my face because I had glass dust all over me and I could cut my self or get glass in my eyes (I also wear contacts). Then the tow truck guy came -- even before the cop got back and asked me if we were okay, something the cop didn't even do. Finally the cop got back and said she didn't see any ice (she didn't get out of the car to really look for it so how the heck did she know??) but that it must have been why the car slid. We didn't need to fill out any paper work so we took off to follow the tow truck who had my car, good thing I had AAA too. I laughed so much,  all the way to where the car was dropped off. I can only explain the reason I was laughing was out of nervous and sheer disbelief that we were alive. My husband, bless his heart never once got upset about the car. Although I still suffer from headaches, that I believe was caused from the accident,  Andrew never got hurt (or anyone else) and for that I truly feel blessed!

We decided to fix the car a Ford Escort 1988, which still runs great, thanks to Mike's auto! I passed this car on to my oldest niece b/c was still a good little car that ran great and had no body damage <now> lol. She then sold it and got a new car.

We bought a new car soon after this all happen, a blue/green 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan  it seats 7, is fully loaded with power every thing, AC both in front and back, built in car seats for the kids, TV/VCR and I love it!

Thank you for reading my story and each time you and your loved ones get in a car PLEASE remember to buckle up! Drive safe!
